Annual Le Maitre Day Home Block 2017 Harvest

There is quite a special and therapeutic feeling you get when standing under the nets in the sun, handpicking bunches of grapes. We wanted to share this experience, so a few years ago we established our Le Maitre Day Home Block Harvest celebration, for Wine Club members.
Our Home Block vineyard was originally planted by our founder, Alan Brady, in 1983. Fruit from this site produced Central Otago’s first commercial vintage with the release of our Gibbston Valley Pinot Noir in 1987. We now produce our Le Maitre single vineyard range from this block.
The vineyard is not irrigated and has BioGro Organic certification. The vines have a natural balance, born from age and a deep root profile. The sub-regional influence of Gibbston gives transparency and elegance to the wine.
This year our Home Block Harvest was another day to remember. The sun played its part once again. The cheerful group who had gathered for the occasion spent the morning handpicking fruit and the afternoon being treated to a gourmet lunch with matched wine. The restaurant team served a 3 course lunch that included a locally sourced warm lamb and roast vegetable main, matched with a Le Maitre Pinot Noir vertical. The vertical included the 2014, 2015 & 2016 vintages. This was the first tasting of our 2016 Le Maitre Pinot Noir. We will now cellar these bottles for a few more months until the official release.
Part of the day was spent touring the new winemaking facility and watching the winemakers in action, whilst sipping on a few glasses of Gibbston Valley NV bubbles.
Thank you to all of the members that made this another great day. We look forward to seeing everyone again in 2018.
