A Wine Tasting with a Difference
Celebrating the Beauty and Creative Spirit in Wine
GIBBSTON VALLEY WINERY, FEBRUARY 1, 7.30PM
Hosted by Alan Brady
Tickets $35 from Gibbston Valley Wines
Spend an evening with Gisela Kreglinger an author and Christian theologian from a German winemaking background whose book ‘The Spirituality of Wine” shatters many misconceptions and misinterpretations about the role wine should play in our lives.
Drawing on her experience growing up in a family winery in Franconia, Germany, she writes: “Very few drinks in the world have the capacity to mirror the beauty hidden in creation as does one small glass of wine. Wine is supposed to make us joyful. It’s God’s gift for our happiness.”
As part of a world lecture tour Gisela Kreglinger will be in Central Otago in February and will give just one talk in conjunction with a wine tasting at Gibbston Valley’s new venue, The Wine Vault on February 1. Tickets are limited and are available at Gibbston Valley Wines, Phone 03 4426910
“I grew up on a family winery in Germany and have been involved in wine tastings ever since I was old enough to pour wine,” says Ms Kreglinger. “This experience has profoundly shaped my spiritualty and the way I do theology. “At this tasting people will experience wine in a different way,” she says. “With each wine I offer reflections to help the audience embrace wine tasting as a spiritual experience.”
In her book she examines wine in the Bible, in the history of the church and in the last supper and these reflections culminate in a theology of joy and feasting that celebrates the human senses as gifts for tasting the goodness of God. She also writes about technology and wine-crafting, the health benefits of wine, alcohol abuse, “holy tipsiness,” consumerism and soul care.
